Olympian Softball Complex — The Columbus East Olympian softball team stepped onto the turf last night for a high-stakes Hoosier Hills Conference clash against the Floyd Central Highlanders. Welcoming the state’s 4th-ranked team in Class 4A to the Olympians softball complex, East knew they were in for a defensive battle. While the Highlanders' powerhouse offense eventually led to a 16-1 result, the Olympians showed plenty of early-game toughness against one of Indiana's elite programs. Holding the Line: The Olympians proved they could hang with the best through the first four frames. Despite the pressure from a top-tier lineup, East kept the game within striking distance at 6-1 heading into the 5th inning. It wasn't until a late-inning surge that the Highlanders were able to pull away, posting 10 runs in the final two innings to close out the contest. Olympian Standouts: Despite the tough final score, several Olympians put together disciplined performances at the plate and on the mound: > Jacque Boroughs (#1): Provided the offensive highlight of the night, connecting for a clutch double and recording the team’s lone RBI. > Baleigh Fish (#5): Battled through 5.0 innings in the circle, racking up 6 strikeouts against a potent Floyd Central offense. Fish also showed elite discipline at the plate, drawing 3 walks in 3 appearances. > Thaise Jessup (#3): Showed great eyes at the plate to draw a walk and accounted for the Olympians' only run of the evening. Team Discipline: The Olympian lineup refused to be intimidated, drawing a total of 7 walks throughout the game to keep runners moving. > Taylor Wessel (#8): Contributed to the team's situational play with a sacrifice and also reached base via a walk. Eyes on the Pirates: Softball is a game of short memories, and the Olympians are already shifting their focus to the next challenge. They won't have to wait long to get back on the field as they prepare for a road trip to face the Greensburg Pirates. The Olympians will play a double-header at Greensburg this Saturday, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.. It’s a prime opportunity for the team to shake off a tough conference loss and get back to their winning ways. Good luck O's!
