Scottsbug H.S. - The Columbus East Olympians made the trip count Monday night, riding a dominant all-around performance from JD Rotert to secure a 6-2 road victory over Scottsburg. Rotert was simply locked in from the first pitch to the final out. The left-hander went the distance on the mound, tossing a complete game while allowing just two runs—only one earned—on nine hits. He struck out six and walked just one, controlling the tempo all night. At the plate, Rotert was even tougher to deal with. He delivered a perfect 4-for-4 performance, highlighted by a solo home run to right field in the second inning that put the Olympians on the board early. He added two doubles and a single, finishing with three RBIs and accounting for a huge chunk of East’s offensive production. Columbus East racked up 11 hits as a team, consistently applying pressure throughout the lineup. Reid Koester turned in a strong showing, going 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Paxton Thompson added two hits and drove in a run. The Olympians also got contributions up and down the order, with timely hitting helping extend innings and create scoring opportunities. After building a 2-1 lead through four innings, the Olympians broke things open in the seventh. A four-run outburst gave them breathing room and put the game out of reach, showcasing their ability to deliver in big moments. Defensively, East battled through some miscues but still managed to make key plays when it mattered most, including turning two double plays to halt potential threats. With the win, the Olympians continue to build early-season momentum and now turn their attention to conference play. They’ll return home Thursday to host Hoosier Hills Conference opponent Seymour, with first pitch set for 5:30 p.m. at Olympian Field.
