Olympian Field — With a doubleheader reduced to a single game due to afternoon rain, the Columbus East Olympians battled throughout but ultimately fell 8-4 on Saturday at Olympian Field. After surrendering an early deficit, the Olympians showed steady fight across the remaining innings, stringing together production at the plate and grinding through on the mound. Kaden Arnholt got the start and worked through five innings, striking out five while allowing six runs (five earned). After a difficult opening frame, Arnholt settled in and gave East a chance to respond. Luke Jewell came on in relief, tossing two innings and adding a pair of strikeouts. Offensively, the Olympians generated five hits and worked four walks, creating opportunities in multiple innings. Paxton Thompson provided a spark with a triple and a run scored, while Jacob Huffman delivered an RBI on his lone hit of the day. Reid Koester also drove in a run with a base hit, and Zander Weatherford added an RBI while reaching base and scoring a run. Bige Asher contributed with a hit and a walk, and Arnholt helped his own cause at the plate with a hit as well. East showed aggressiveness on the bases, with stolen bases from Asher, Jaxon Rotert, and Weatherford, looking to manufacture offense and apply pressure. Despite the effort, the Olympians were unable to fully overcome the early gap. Columbus East finished with four runs on five hits, leaving seven runners on base while continuing to battle until the final out. The Olympians won’t have to wait long for another opportunity, returning to action tonight (April 6) on the road at Scottsburg High School. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. as East looks to bounce back and turn the page quickly.
