WHITELAND H.S. – The Christian Brown era of Columbus East baseball began with a display of power from the middle of the lineup, but it wasn't enough to overcome a relentless offensive attack from the Whiteland Warriors on Tuesday night. Despite two towering home runs from senior Aiden Bumbalough, the Olympians fell 12-4 in their 2026 regular season opener. A Power Display in the Debut The headline of the night for Columbus East was undoubtedly Aiden Bumbalough. The Olympian slugger was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, accounting for nearly all of the team's run production. Bumbalough first left the yard in the top of the second inning, tattooing a solo home run to center field to get East on the board. He wasn't finished, however; in the sixth inning, he cleared the fences again, this time a two-run blast to left field that brought the Olympian dugout to its feet. Gritty Performance on the Paths While the scoreboard didn't favor the visitors, the Olympians showed an aggressive identity on the base paths that Coach Brown likely hopes to see continue. East runners were constantly in motion, amassing four stolen bases throughout the contest. Zach Weatherford led the charge with two swipes. Bige Asher and Kaden Arnholt each recorded a stolen base of their own. Asher also provided a spark in the lineup, finishing 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Ryker Stott and Landon Jewell rounded out the hit column for the Olympians, who finished with six hits as a team. Defensive Silver Lining If there was a bright spot outside of the batter's box, it was the Olympians' leatherwork. Columbus East played a perfect defensive game, recording zero errors despite the high-scoring environment. Bige Asher was busy at first base, handling seven total chances flawlessly to lead the defensive effort. On the mound, Kaden Arnholt earned the start for the Olympians, striking out three batters over three innings of work. Stott and Huffman appeared in relief to navigate a tough Warriors lineup that tallied 13 hits on the evening. The Olympians are right back on the field tonight (4/1) when they host the Perry Meridian Falcons. First pitch: 6 p.m. Stay tuned for weather updates as there is a 45%-50% of rain/t-storms this evening.
