The Columbus East Olympians traveled to Brownsburg on Thursday, March 26, to kick off the IHSAA spring season against the No. 9 ranked Bulldogs. In a true "trial by fire" season opener, the Olympians fell 0-9, but saw several players step up against elite 4A competition. Offensive Highlights: Despite facing a sharp pitching staff that combined for eight strikeouts, the Olympians managed to put runners on and force the Bulldogs to work. > Lola Watkins had a standout night at the plate, accounting for two of the team's three hits. > Taylor Wessel added a base hit to the tally. > Baleigh Fish showed excellent plate discipline, drawing two walks to reach base in both of her credited plate appearances. > As a unit, the Olympians played "error-free" ball in the field, finishing the game with zero recorded errors. Work in the Circle: Fish took the mound for the Olympians, facing a high-powered Brownsburg lineup that eventually found its rhythm. > Fish threw 92 pitches, with 49 going for strikes. > She finished the night with 4 strikeouts over 5.0 innings of work. > She faced a total of 28 batters during the contest. The Olympians left five runners on base during the contest, suggesting that with a few timely hits, the momentum could have easily shifted. With the first-game jitters out of the way, East will look to carry the lessons from this road trip into their upcoming schedule Next game: The Olympians travel to Charlestown High School on Tuesday, March 31st, with a 6 p.m. first pitch.
