Competing on the biggest stage in Indiana high school gymnastics, Columbus East’s Bethany Lewis represented the Olympians Saturday at the Indiana High School Athletic Association State Finals held at Ball State University in Muncie. Lewis qualified as an individual all-around competitor and delivered a solid performance against many of the state’s top gymnasts, finishing 27th in the all-around with a score of 35.300. Her best event of the afternoon came on the floor exercise, where she scored a 9.225 to tie for 23rd place. Lewis also turned in steady routines on the other three apparatuses, posting a 9.025 on vault (tied for 31st) and an 8.625 on the uneven bars (tied for 34th). She added an 8.425 on the balance beam (tied for 44th) to round out her all-around total. The state meet brings together the top gymnasts from across Indiana, and Lewis earned her spot among them through a strong postseason run. Competing as the lone representative for Columbus East, she showcased her consistency and poise throughout the four-event competition. The all-around state championship was won by Homestead’s Jillian Creager with a score of 38.275, highlighting the depth of talent Lewis competed against on Saturday. For the Olympians, Lewis’ appearance at the state finals capped another impressive season and provided Columbus East with representation on Indiana’s biggest gymnastics stage.
