The next wave of Columbus East wrestling is ready for the spotlight. Fourteen Olympians—12 boys and two girls—will compete this weekend at the Indiana Frosh-Soph State Championships at Southport High School, as East looks to make noise against the state’s top freshmen and sophomores. Boys Qualifiers East will be well represented across the lower and upper weights: 106: Joel Smith 113: Kade Stephens 144: Will Cochran, Cameron Cooper, Jayden Dehart, Colton Foster 150: Draven Day 165: Mario Mota 175: Henry Eickmeyer 190: Brady Cleary, Henry McMahon 285: Austin Ruse The boys tournament features full wrestle-backs and will compete to the top eight on Saturday, with final placements decided Sunday. Session I (106–144) begins Saturday morning, while Session II (150–285) hits the mat in the afternoon. Girls Qualifiers On the girls side, two Olympians will look to finish strong: 170: Kyleigh Traylor 190: Elle Bliton The girls division will wrestle through to completion Saturday evening, crowning champions that night. What to Know The championships begin Saturday, February 28, with doors opening at 7:00 a.m. for the first boys session. Girls weigh-ins begin at 11:00 a.m., with wrestling set for 12:30 p.m. Sunday’s action resumes at 9:00 a.m., featuring placement matches for the boys. Wrestlers are permitted to change weight classes from their qualifying weight, with seeding criteria following them to their new class—adding another strategic layer to the weekend. For a young East squad, this event is more than just another tournament. It’s a chance to measure progress, test themselves against elite competition, and build momentum heading into the offseason. The future of Columbus East wrestling is stepping onto the state stage—and they’re not just going for experience. They’re going to compete.
