COLUMBUS East — The Columbus East gymnastics team hosted the Connersville Spartans on Wednesday night in the Orange Pit, combining competition with a special senior night celebration honoring gymnasts Kai Scott and Kalia Scott along with team manager Deonte Study. Although the Olympians did not have enough athletes to post a full team score, the evening still featured strong individual performances and a memorable sendoff for the seniors. Junior Bethany Lewis turned in an outstanding performance, recording the top scores of the night and winning the all-around title with a total of 36.15. Lewis placed first in all four events, scoring a 9.3 on vault, 8.6 on bars, 9.1 on beam, and 9.15 on floor. Her continued development this season has shown through improved form and consistency across each event. On senior night, the Scott twins added solid contributions for the Olympians. Kalia Scott posted scores of 7.2 on vault, 5.1 on bars, 5.5 on beam, and 7.5 on floor. Kai Scott earned a fourth-place finish on floor with an 8.3 while also scoring an 8.2 on vault and 7.9 on beam. The twins have made a significant impact in a short time with the program, embracing the challenge of learning a new sport and bringing energy and commitment to the team throughout the season. Columbus East now prepares for the final stretch of the regular season. The Olympians will host Edgewood in their last home meet Monday(2/16) before traveling to Rushville on Tuesday(2/17) and wrapping up the regular season Monday, Feb. 23 at Seymour. Sectional competition is set for Friday, Feb. 27 hosted by Franklin Central H.S..
