What was supposed to be a Saturday afternoon road trip turned into a Friday night battle, as the Columbus East girls basketball team adjusted plans due to an approaching snowstorm and moved the game at Madison up a day. The schedule change didn’t slow the Cubs, however, as Madison dealt the Olympians a 72–48 setback. Columbus East was led offensively by Ella Anthis, who poured in 21 points to pace the Olympians. Kenzie Cheek followed with 12 points, providing a steady presence on the scoring end. Brelyn Pool and Madison Gourley each added five points, while Krea Martin chipped in three and Emma Armstrong rounded out the scoring with two points. The JV squad gave the Olympians something to build on, earning a convincing 44–30 victory. Madison Gourley led the way with 13 points, Madelyn Tapp added eight, and Taylor Parker finished with seven. Mia Petro contributed six points, Janytzi Padilla Ojeda scored four, and Renata Montoya Gonzalez and Brooke Moss each added two points. Columbus East will look to turn the page quickly, as the Olympians are slated to return to action Tuesday, January 27, when they travel to Indian Creek High School, weather permitting.
