East Gymnastics Opens Season Against Cross-Town Rival

The Columbus East Olympian gymnastics team opened the 2026 season Monday night (Jan. 12) with a home meet against cross-town rival Columbus North. East’s strongest event of the night came on vault, where the Olympians posted a team score of 25.0 in the opening rotation. Junior Bethany Lewis led the way for East with a consistent all-around performance, finishing second overall with a score of 35.4. Lewis earned the event win on the bars with an 8.3 and added a second-place finish on the beam (8.85). She also tied for third on vault with a 9.2 and placed fourth on floor with a 9.05, contributing across all four events for the Olympians. The meet marked the first competition of the season for Columbus East, with several gymnasts making their competitive debuts at the high school level. East will look to build on the opening-night experience as the season continues.
