The Columbus East girls basketball team hosted HHC rival Jeffersonville Saturday morning in the Orange Pit, but the Olympians ran into a physical Red Devils squad and fell 61–31. Originally scheduled as a JV–varsity doubleheader beginning at noon, forecasted snowfall of 4–6 inches forced a change of plans. The JV game was canceled, and the varsity contest was moved up to an 11:30 a.m. tip to get everyone home safely. Jeffersonville set the tone early, scoring 20 points in the first quarter while East managed 8. The Olympians added 9 points in the second quarter, but the Red Devils continued to control the game, taking a 35–17 lead into halftime. East scored 8 points in the third quarter and 6 in the fourth, while Jeffersonville finished strong with 18 points in the final frame. Turnovers proved costly for the Olympians, and Jeffersonville’s size inside made scoring difficult, as the Red Devils altered and blocked several shots around the basket. Despite the challenges, East continued to compete and had contributions from multiple players. Breylyn Pool led the Olympians with 7 points, followed closely by Krea Martin with 6. Kenzie Cheek and Alison Halstead each scored 5 points, with Halstead providing a strong spark off the bench. Lola Watkins added 4 points, Emma Armstrong scored 2, and London Cline and Ella Anthis each chipped in 1 to round out the scoring. Columbus East has one game remaining before Christmas Break, heading across town for a rivalry matchup with Columbus North on Thursday, December 18. The JV game is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the varsity to follow.
