The Columbus East girls basketball team made the trip to 1A No. 10 Trinity Lutheran on Tuesday night and ran into a Cougar squad firing on all cylinders, falling 61–31. East kept things even early, matching Trinity at 10–10 after the first quarter. But the Cougars found their rhythm in the second and never looked back, surging ahead 23–19 at the half before breaking the game open with a dominant third quarter. Lola Watkins and Allison Halstead led the Olympians with 7 points each. Hayden Meeks added 6, Brelyn Pool finished with 5, Krea Martin chipped in 4, and Kenzie Cheek closed out the scoring with 2. Quarter-by-quarter, Columbus East posted 10 first quarter points, 9 in the 2nd quarter, 5 points in the 3rd quarter, and 7 points in the final frame. Trinity Lutheran countered with 10 in the opening period, followed by 13 points in the 2nd, then a decisive 23-point third quarter, and 15 more in the fourth to reach 61. The Olympians return home next Tuesday, December 9, when they host Hoosier Hills Conference rival Floyd Central in the Orange Pit. JV tips at 6 p.m., with varsity to follow.
