The Columbus East girls basketball team made the most of their Friday night trip to Indianapolis, locking down Southport from the opening tip and grinding out a convincing 44–23 victory. It wasn’t flashy—it was disciplined, physical, and exactly the kind of identity win a young team can build on. East’s defense took control immediately, allowing just two points in the first quarter and nine by halftime By the time the Olympians stretched the lead to double digits in the second quarter, the Cardinals were already fighting uphill. Offensively, Columbus East spread the wealth. Kenzie Cheek, Lola Watkins, and Hayden Meek each posted 9 points to pace the attack. Ella Anthis and Emma Armstrong added 4 apiece, Krea Martin and Brelyn Pool chipped in 3 each, Lucy Ross tallied 2, and London Cline rounded out the scoring with 1. Quarter Scores: Columbus East: 9, 18, 31, 44 Southport: 2, 9, 13, 23 This one was all about defensive toughness and steady execution—traits that will matter even more as the season heats up. The Olympians won’t have long to enjoy it. They’re back on the road Wednesday, November 19th, heading to St. Leon, IN for a matchup with a strong East Central squad. Another test is coming, but this group looks ready for it.
