The Columbus East JV girls basketball team put together an impressive effort Tuesday night in the Orange Pit, taking the Roncalli Royals to the wire before falling just short in a 53-50 overtime loss. The Olympians led for much of the night, holding a 16-10 advantage after the first quarter and extending it to 27-19 at halftime. Roncalli rallied in the second half to tie the game at 46-46, but Mia Petro buried a clutch three-pointer at the buzzer to send it into overtime. The Royals edged East in the extra period to escape with the win. London Cline was outstanding, leading all scorers with 30 points. Madison Gourley added 7 points, Emma Armstrong chipped in 4, and Mia Petro finished with 3—none bigger than her game-tying shot to force overtime. Renata Montoya, Allison Halstead, and Aleigha Wickliffe each scored 2 points to round out the balanced effort. Despite the tough loss, the Olympians showed poise, teamwork, and resilience against a strong opponent—promising signs for the rest of the season.
