The Columbus East girls basketball team battled one of the state’s top programs Tuesday night in the Orange Pit, hosting Class 3A No. 6 Roncalli. The Olympians came out strong and trailed by just one after the first quarter, but the Royals used a big second-half surge to take control and earn a 72-46 win. Columbus East was led by Ella Anthis, who scored 13 points to pace the offense. Kenzie Cheek and Brelyn Pool each added 9 points, while Bailey Rhode chipped in 6. Lola Watkins contributed 4 points, Lucy Ross scored 3, and Averie Graham added 2 to round out the scoring. The Olympians trailed just 16-15 after the opening period before Roncalli caught fire from the field, building a 37-28 halftime advantage and stretching the lead to 60-35 by the end of the third quarter. Columbus East (1–2) will look to bounce back on Friday, November 14, when they travel to Southport High School to take on the Cardinals. The JV game tips off at 6 p.m., followed by varsity action. Good luck, Olympians!
