The Columbus East girls wrestling team proved it can hold its own against some of the state’s top programs, earning an impressive fifth-place finish in Saturday’s 28-team New Palestine Invitational. The Olympians totaled 173 points in the season’s first major test, finishing just behind Beech Grove (176.5) and ahead of several perennial powers. Franklin Central claimed the team title with 298 points, followed by Mooresville (217) and Perry Meridian (201). Columbus East crowned two individual champions, as Gloria Cloud (125 pounds) and Annie Redman (170) each went unbeaten at 4-0 to capture first place in their respective weight classes. Maddie Shrader (190) also had a strong showing, finishing 3-1 on the day to take second. Rounding out East’s top finishers were Izzy Wakefield (155) and Kaydence Spradlin (235), who both went 3-1 and placed third. Tienica Dits (105) and Breylin Rodriguez (115) each finished 3-2 and earned fifth-place medals, while Abby Morales (100) battled to a seventh-place finish at 2-2. With a balanced performance across multiple weight classes, the Olympians showed depth and potential early in the season. The Olympians have their first home meet of the season this week, welcoming the Madison Cubs on Thursday, November 13th starting at 7 p.m. Good luck Olympians!
