Olympian Girls Wrestlers Open Season With Split Results on the Road The Columbus East girls wrestling team wasted no time diving into competition to begin their title defense, opening the regular season Wednesday night in a tri-meet at Jennings County. Facing both Jeffersonville and the host Panthers, the Olympians came away with one win and one narrow setback. The Olympians were short-handed to start the evening, surrendering four weight classes due to injuries, impacting the scoring for both matches. East’s matchup with Jeffersonville ended in a 42-42 deadlock on the scoreboard, but the Red Devils were ultimately awarded the victory on tie-breaking criteria - the tie-breaker being who had the most forfeits. The Olympians regrouped quickly, though, and closed the night with a 56-42 win over Jennings County to secure their first dual victory of the season. Several East wrestlers turned in perfect nights on the mat. Tienica Dits, Breylin Rodriguez, Gloria Cloud, Thania De La Cruz Diaz, Annie Redman, and Kaydence Spradlin all finished 2-0 while competing across multiple weight classes. Ellie Bliton added a win in her only match of the evening, and both Lia Tomlinson and Ashlee Manis picked up one win apiece while splitting their two bouts. Issabel Wakefield went at 1-1 as well. The Olympians are right back at it with a huge early season test as they head to New Palestine, IN on Saturday, November 8th to compete in the New Pal Invitational. Wrestling starts at 9 a.m. Good luck O's!
